Women’s Fund is pleased to welcome its newest board member and leader Christine Gallegos.

Tell us about yourself.

I am proud to say that I am a native El Pasoan! My maiden name is Jeddery as my father is of French descent. But, I don't speak French! My father encouraged me to be athletic and competitive so I participated in softball and soccer while at Bel Air High School. My mother nurtured the "girly" part of me and accompanied me on modeling events. I have a daughter who is a senior in high school and I, too, encourage her to engage in athletics as it builds confidence and self esteem.

You have a big claim to fame playing for the Mexican National Softball Team. What was that like?

It truly was the fulfillment of my dream to play softball on a competitive level. I started playing in my late twenties for Juarez and played for eight years. I truly was able to appreciate team work and the importance of sacrifice for the love of the game and of the team. The game that best exemplifies this was my last game when we played for the National Championship. I was struggling with my batting average and while my coach would have let me play the entire game, I gave up my batting spot to an up-and- coming teammate (batting average of 1000) to secure the win. After that game I retired and was named into the Juarez Softball Hall of Fame. My leadership skills have been enhanced by my leadership experience on the team.

What have been the greatest joys and challenges in your career?

My greatest joys have been seeing my employees become successful through coaching and development. Throughout my career, I have had mentors who have seen my potential and have coached and developed me. It is great to be able to do the same. I don't see challenges - just opportunities to be able to move forward and learn.

What advice would you give a women looking at a career in banking?

It is a great time to be in banking for anyone! But as a woman, I am proud that I started my career with Wells Fargo because we value diversity as part of our Vision and Values. I am truly a reflection of how Wells Fargo values diversity. While we are sure to see some more challenging times for the banking industry, I am proud that I will meet the opportunities with Wells Fargo.

How do you like to spend your free time?

I like to spend time with my daughter and still play softball recreationally.
