Become a Mentor TODAY June 14, 2010
In the time it takes to go grocery shopping, pick up the dry cleaning and grab that much needed Starbuck's, you could change the life of one of our El Paso youth. Children in El Paso are waiting, 300 to be exact, for a caring person to say they will listen and help them remember what it's like to be a kid. Youth are pushed into adulthood when they deal with the incarceration of a parent, the death of a loved one or divorce, as well as the ever mounting number of peer pressures. So many have asked for someone to talk to, play with and just help them smile, yet they wait months and months... Within the "Triangle" alone, there are 25 children waiting. So the next time you pick up a Starbucks, why not pick up two, one for you and one for your new "Little Brother/Little Sister" and talk about what it's like to grow up in our great Sun City. Some say that twice a month (free activities if you sign up now) for a year is too much of a time commitment. But District 2 states: Many things can wait; children shouldn't have to.
