The first annual Power of the Purse Auction for Women was held on Thursday, May 11, 2006 at a chic and unique El Paso Chile Company Warehouse on Texas Avenue. Nearly 400 women attended and bought over 300 handbags on sale through the silent and live auction and Mercado shopping. As a result of the event, the generous underwriting of the event sponsors, and a $25,000 matching grant from the El Paso Empowerment Zone, the Women’s Fund of El Paso will be able to award $75,000 in educational scholarships for low and moderate income single mothers and other women in the El Paso community.

The Women’s Fund extends its sincere appreciation to all guests, shoppers, volunteers and underwriters who helped make this first annual event a great success.
