Increased immigration enforcement in El Paso County is scaring some abused wives from reporting mistreatment and is making it difficult for them to obtain immigration benefits they are entitled to, according to some El Paso immigration lawyers. Some of their undocumented immigrant clients have called them instead of 911 during emergencies for fear of being deported. Part of the El Paso District Office of US Citizenship and Immigration Services, United Neighborhood Organization is a pro bono representative for the Violence Against Women Act, a program to help women in violent situations.
